Welcome back to the TSL Quarterback Power Rankings!
We have your Top Fifteen QBs in the League, we have some ups and downs, we have some banal commentary (there's an SAT word for you), and SURE, why not, we have a graph for you. Enjoy!
#1 Joey Batts - Legends / Cunning Stunts
Last Week: Beat GirthQuakes 53-24, lost to Interdimensional Lightning Falcons 33-27 (Stunts)
Legends had a bye week, while the Stunts smacked GirthQuakes around... and dropped a close (and controversial!) one to ILF. The Stunts are 2-1 and debatably should be 3-0 right now, so it seems like they've adjusted to D3 very well after a lifetime in D4. No movement on top of the Power Rankings this week.
#2 Mike Thomas – Sticky Bandits
Last Week: Did Not Play
No game for the Sticky Bandits this week, but Captain Jeff Krol says that if anyone in the TSL is wondering how many games the Sticky Bandits have won over the years, they should ask Jill "Team Trivia Master" Fittry at the fields this week.
#3 Bobby McConnell - Eyes Downtown
Last Week: Beat Mavericks 36-32
Eyes Downtown are one of only three teams with a winning record right now in D1, after a hard fought win against Mavericks. Is Bobby's focus still on D1, or is his head (and heart) down in D5 these days?
#4 Andy Strug – The Malones
Last Week: Beat Can't Touch This 44-34
How can we NOT have Andy in the Top Four at this point? The Malones have absolutely taken control of D2 with a pair of wins over Can't Touch This, and the only three QBs in the League with higher points per game (in an equal or higher division) are the three guys ranked above Andy right now. So yeah, fourth place feels pretty fair.
#5 Cody Stumpf – What a Dump
Last Week: Did Not Play
No game for the Dumpers this week. Can we call them the Dumpers?
#6 Garrett Beesing - Frodo Swaggins
Last Week: Lost to Mavericks 47-35
Frodo Swaggins are still searching for their first win three weeks into what must be a frustrating start to the season. A 1 point loss, a tie, and now a loss to a previously winless team jumping up from D2? Many of us thought we'd see Frodo in the D1 championship game this season. We still might, but they'll have to figure out what's going wrong and fix it quickly (with Legends on deck for this week...)
#7 Jordan Lawson - Mavericks / Scared Hitless
Last Week: Beat Frodo Swaggins 47-35, lost to Eyes Downtown 36-32 (Mavericks), beat Can't Touch This 25-19 (Scared Hitless)
We never like to overreact to a single week... but did last Saturday save Jordan's season? Mavericks and Scared Hitless were being written off by everyone (including much of our Committee), and they responded with: their first true D1 win with Mavericks... an UPSET win (no disrespect!) over D2 powerhouse Can't Touch This... and maybe most impressively, a close loss to a team expected to contend for the D1 championship in Eyes Downtown. What a week!
#8 Joe Miano - Jabronies
Last Week: Beat Grey Hair - Don't Hair 41-28
We've been saying it all session (well, all three weeks of this session) but these Jabronies look GOOD. However good you think Joe Miano is, we assure you, he's better (especially when he has a supporting cast like this one). Bring on more Can't Touch This and Malones games in the next couple of weeks! Can't wait to see who the Godfather picks for those...
#9 Ryan Dougherty - Can't Touch This
Last Week: Lost to the Malones 44-34, lost to Scared Hitless 25-19
Can't Touch This was almost invincible in the Spring, and EVERY one of us on our Committee picked them to go to (if not win) the D2 championship game this session. Now they're 1-3 with two losses against their rivals The Malones, and in fifth place in a six team division. Will they fix things? Sure, they're too talented not to. But the aura of invincibility has taken a hit.
#10 Frank Laudico - Wanderers
Last Week: Did Not Play
No game for Wanderers this week. And Frank drops three spots in our standings! That's what happens when teams in higher divisions have big wins, apparently.
#11 Buddy Lee – Passing While Intoxicated / Interdimensional Lightning Falcons
Last Week: Lost to Bullet Club 24-19, beat Cunning Stunts 33-27 (Interdimensional Lightning Falcons)
No PWI games on Saturday, but ILF was in action with mixed results. After losing to Bullet Club in a tight battle, ILF snuck out a win over the Stunts with some... uh, questionable officiating to help. A win's a win. We feel like we know who ILF are at this point... but PWI is a total mystery to us, since they've played only one of the first three weeks of the season, and with a VERY new looking roster.
#12 Matt Glowacki - Unit Ha Ha
Last Week: Did Not Play
No games for the Unit this week. Maybe they're still off somewhere celebrating that Mavericks win.
#13 David Eickhoff - Grey Hair Don't Care / Ready to Retire
Last Week: Lost to Jabronies 41-28 (GHDC), beat Cobblestone 36-26 (R2R)
Grey Hair Don't Care is the only team in D2 without a win at this point in the season. That's not great! But Ready To Retire are 2-1 in D4 after narrowly beating Cobblestone on Saturday. The "Big Three" teams of D4 look great. Is it possible that R2R is ready to join them and make it a Big Four?
#14 Damien Keller - D-Generation X Y and Z
Last Week: Beat Buffalo Vice 42-20
D-Generation X Y and Z, according to our ridiculous website tiebreakers, is now in first place in D3! We're not really sure why... they don't have the best winning percentage, the best offense OR the best defense. But they're the best point differential among teams with two wins? Sure. Either way, they just beat an undefeated Buffalo Vice team on Saturday (which didn't have their starting QB, we know) so things are off to a hot start for the Keller Klan.
#15 Andy Clark - Buffalo Vice
Last Week: Did Not Play
Buffalo Vice lost without their starting QB on Saturday. We COULD reward Andy in the Power Rankings for showing how important he is to his team while absent... but instead we'll punish him for missing a game.
Fancy Statistics Section
Alright, it's Week Three. We said we would wait until Week Four to make any graphs or charts, but truthfully, we just get bored without them. Why even bother playing sports if you can't dissect the results in a graphical format? So here is a "way too early in the season to matter" graph of the best teams in the League (according to average margin of victory per game). The colors represent divisions, as shown on the website's schedule from the Homepage.
What did we learn?
Flying Balls and The Chargers are definitely meeting in the D6 Championship Game. They're crushing the rest of the field in D6... although it's interesting that two of the OTHER top ten teams in the TSL are also in D6. Do Blue Ballers or Select have a chance against the top teams? (Honestly - we didn't even know Select was having a great season).
Legends and Sticky Bandits are representing D1, which shouldn't be TOO much of a surprise considering they've already met in the D1 Championship game three times. We're just a little surprised Eyes Downtown isn't joining them in the Top Ten.
Balls Deep vs Bridget & Quit It might be a D5 championship preview, as those are the only teams in D5 that stand out.
Two Tuddies and the Malones are the only teams from their divisions in the Top Ten. Which is awesome, because a month ago, not many people were talking about either as the top team in their division.
And D3 has no one in the Top Ten, which means there's a lot more parity in that division than the others. For what it's worth, if we extended this to a "Top Eleven", D-Generation X Y and Z was the next team that would have made the graph.
