Welcome back TSLers to the week three edition of the Sentinel! Can anybody believe we are already through three weeks of this spring session? It feels like just yesterday we were all eagerly awaiting the return of spring football, and here we are already a few weeks in, with some teams separating themselves as the contenders, and some shocking upsets that have the standings making people wonder who’s really the best! The weather for the most part held off, aside from a passing shower for the 2pm and 3pm games. Looks like there may be some late showers again next Saturday, but I guess we will see with how unpredictable the weather seems to be this time of year! Enough of that though, let’s look at some of these games!

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club (Trish’s version) 35, Steph Infection 28

So far breakfast club has provided very close matchups, and this was no different! BCTV was led by Frank Laudico, one of the smartest QB’s breakfast club has, and he was methodical all game, utilizing his ladies and Sal like a well-oiled machine. SI got out to an early lead, with Garrett getting more comfortable with his receivers and spreading the wealth. However, Garrett made one mistake towards the end of the first half, and it gave BCTV the opportunity to score before half and get the ball after. We got to see the new onside kick rule! Garrett took the team back to the 50, and threw the hail mary but it got knocked away, and Trish got the bragging rights!

D1

Sticky Bandits 28, Eyes Uptown 26

They’ve been living in an uptown world, bet they’ve never had a sticky bandit guy. I bet Travis never told them why, yet the Sentinel is going to try: Uptown girls are the key to success for EU. Maddie Norton makes her case as the most elusive female in the league and if Joey can get the ball in her hands, she is a difference maker, as she showed time and time again. Sticky Nation has the league's fastest rusher, and made Joey’s life as a thrower a nightmare. Drew Colosimo continues to shine for any team he is on, as long as the QB has a functioning shoulder! Deep balls, jump balls, Drew got them all, and Sticky took a close one. 

Frodo Swaggins 37, Eyes Downtown 25

Upset alert? Upset alert! Yes, we know ED is missing a couple key pieces, but Frodo was locked in and ready to roll. New addition Sal, who may be taking some of Garrett’s ideas back to Frank for Wanderers, showed to be an immediate impact addition, wreaking havoc on defense while also securing what might be the catch of the year in the back of the endzone to put the Swaggins up two scores. Bobby had some struggles in this one, and one wonders how quickly he and the rest of ED can shake off this tough start. Odds are with the return of Ben and Blase, they will be right back to old times soon enough. Especially since they were a little short-handed in this one, but don’t take anything away from Frodo, they balled out and look more comfortable in D1!

D2

Freeballers 34, Puckett All-Stars 24

This was a battle of the backups, as it seems PAS didn’t have their normal QB, and neither did Freeballers. The advantage was, Freeballers got Garrett, who played pretty mistake free and poised to help Freeballers out. PAS was competitive throughout the game, and continues to show signs they aren’t too far away from pulling off some wins, but the experience of FB was just too much, mixed with a strong QB sub. I will be keeping my eyes on both teams as they unfold!

Mavericks 31, Untouchaballs 31

We wrote about this matchup a week ago, and the results for Burr and Co were not good. Just a week later, the UT flipped it around, but probably not the result they truly wanted, but nonetheless better than a blowout loss! This game went back and forth, and the Mavericks looked poised early on with scores and a turnover to boot. Burr kept his composure though, and kept battling back, finding his talented group of receivers to battle back. This was quite the duel of two elite TSL QB’s, and for my money, the precursor to the D2 championship game, only that one can’t end in a tie!

D3

Jabronies 28, Let’s Get Reckked 22

LGR touts a star-studded roster, but so do the Jabronies! Former teammates become arch rivals in this one, Dave Baker vs E-Kleck, Joe Miano Vs Alex Buchlis. Old vs getting old. Joe Miano does what he does best, puts the ball into the hands of his playmakers, gets the ball out early, and uses his favorite weapon Eric to move the ball downfield. Rick Reckkio played great coverage for the most part, but perhaps age has finally caught up to him as he looked a little ragged after the game. The game came down to the end, as any rivalry would. Despite teaching Jabronies every trick he knows, Dave and company couldn’t pull together the win, and Jabronies prevails. 

Practice Squad 39, Bullet Club 36

If you watched the first 10 minutes of this game, this is not the result you’d have expected. B let old man Tommy Hughes pick him off the first drive, and BC stormed out to a commanding early lead. B and his crew stayed patient, and B really owes Ken Lantz a 30 rack, as he routinely bailed him out time and time again with extremely tough catches. Renee did what she does, which is catch everything. This was back and forth after the early BC lead, but Renee sealed the deal with a diving interception of Dylan Jaloza to ice the game. 

D4

Interdimensional Lightning Falcons 48, PWI 47

Buddy is the most elusive QB in D4, he can scramble, pump fake, put the ball in the tall guys’ hands and give the ball the touch needed for multiple deep balls to his ladies for gender touchdowns. Both girls from PWI were able to catch deep balls over the ILF defense in the end zone despite some times the ball getting knocked away for interceptions. The X-Factor for ILF was Jason Neth as he played with magnets attached to his hands and hauled in every pass thrown his way. Also can Andrew come up with a shorter team name? The Sentinel is tired of typing that whole thing out. 

Cunning Stunts 43, PWI 20

After having to take a break, PWI looked a little sluggish to start this game, and it did not have subs. Is this the year the stunts finally win D4? Early returns say yes! Despite losing Dri for some silly D1 game, playing in the rain missing their veterans, the Stunts still put a pounding on Buddy. Mike Shimburski, who may have been re-intoxicated, as late getting back for the second game of their double header here. Maggie was once again a terror for PWI and Buddy, getting after Buddy and making a ton of big catches. Did anybody else see Renee just roast Addison down the field? We sure did!

D5

Come From Behind 42, TMA 28

Once again, CFB was missing rocket-armed QB Paul Lovullo, and played 3 girls and 3 guys, but unlike last week, they laid waste to TMA! The ladies for CFB found themselves open and the guys looked ready to avenge after that tough double header last week. TMA looked like they were still figuring out their team as there are a bunch of new faces. They still had the ever reliable Ron Weber and Brent Mackenzie, who made plays all over. CFB just seemed to learn from last week, and had a few more athletes this week to pull off the win. Paul will be back next week, so back to regularly scheduled CFB programming moving forward!

Not so Sticky 31, Stir the Sauce 30

NSS could not keep up with the STS height and speed early on, as big wrestler Dan was nearly unstoppable. This game had all the makings of a blowout, but the NSS team is full of veterans who did not let a big halftime deficit deter them.  Kyle Messina had two picks in the second half that aided NSS in having short fields to work with and they took advantage (it was also easier on Rags’ ancient arm). STS had a little over a minute left, and a clock mistake by the refs led to a premature NSS victory. Both teams decided that would be a crappy way to end the game, so STS had one last shot, but fell short, giving NSS a nail-biter of a victory. 

D6

Blitzkrieg 55, Mighty Drunks 0

We don’t normally like to write about the blowouts; they are a lot less fun. However, this might have been the best Blitzkrieg has looked in some time, and we haven’t said it before, but we will now: This HAS to be their year to take D6, right? The most experienced team kept themselves together, and they showed it. MD is still a bit of a new team, but have shown promise the last two sessions, but just could not move the ball on the BK defense. Alex led the way at QB, sharp with precision on his throws. May have been the most dialed-in he has looked. If BK is this focused on a championship, they are going to be hard to beat!

Sausage McMuffins 36, Sticky Laces 23

Sticky Laces is a new team to TSL, but they have looked like they belong. McMuffins have a solid group of athletes, and put that on display, converting time and time again. The ladies for Sausage McMuffins also have strong hands and showed it to keep them ahead of the downs. This game just came down to understanding of the game, and SM has it in spades to go along with their athletes. Laces will be right there in the end though, and predict they will be a team to make noise come playoffs!
